Police Present 13 Armoured Vehicles to Gov. Idris to Strengthen Fight Against Banditry
The Nigeria Police Force has presented thirteen armoured operational vehicles to the Kebbi State Government in recognition of Governor Nasir Idris’ sustained support for security operations in the state.
Speaking during the presentation at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello Sani, said the vehicles were deployed to the state by the Force Headquarters, Abuja, following directives of the Inspector-General of Police.
CP Bello Sani explained that the gesture was aimed at appreciating the Kebbi State Government for its consistent assistance to security agencies in the fight against crime and insecurity.
According to him, the vehicles were delivered in two batches. The first batch consists of six armoured operational vehicles and one truck, which have been permanently assigned to the Kebbi State Command. The second batch comprises six armoured Special Intervention Squad (SIS) vehicles designated for special operations within the state.
He noted that all the vehicles are fully armoured and will significantly enhance police operations, particularly in volatile areas, while strengthening overall security across the state.
“The deployment underscores the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police and his management team to supporting Kebbi State in maintaining peace and stability", he remarked.
In his response, Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, expressed profound gratitude to Almighty God and appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police for prioritising the security of lives and property.
Governor Idris described the armoured vehicles as timely and suitable for deployment to flashpoints across the state, noting that they represent a clear fulfillment of the directives issued by President Tinubu to the IGP.
“Whether anybody likes it or not, the Inspector-General of Police is on the job. All the promises made to us have been fulfilled through the directives of Mr. President,” the Governor said.
He commended the Nigeria Police, the military, and other security agencies for their swift responses to security challenges, observing that peace has gradually returned to Kebbi State as a result of their collective efforts.
The Governor assured that the state government would continue to support all security agencies to enable them to effectively discharge their duties.
He disclosed that security agencies have been directed to work with the Adviser on Security, Colonel Riba (rtd), and relevant officers to develop strategies for deploying the vehicles to critical areas, particularly border communities with Zamfara and Niger States, to ensure farmers can safely harvest their produce.
Governor Idris emphasized that security remains a top priority of his administration, stressing that meaningful development cannot thrive without peace.
He added that improved security has allowed the government to extend development projects to grassroots communities previously affected by insecurity, especially in Kebbi South.
Reiterating his commitment to investing in security despite criticisms, the governor noted that protecting lives and property is a fundamental responsibility of government.
“My prayer is to see the people of Kebbi State sleep with their two eyes closed,” the Governor said, while reaffirming his administration’s resolve to work harmoniously with all security agencies for a peaceful and prosperous Kebbi State.
