NEMA today (Wednesday), swiftly responded to the collapse of a two-storey building under construction at Unguwar Rogo, Bauchi Road, Sokoto State.

The Agency responded to a distress call at approximately 2:23 p.m., prompting the immediate activation and deployment of NEMA’s Search and Rescue Team by the Head of Operations. Upon arrival at the scene, the team joined other emergency responders in a coordinated multi-agency operation aimed at rescuing any trapped victim, evacuating casualties where necessary, and preventing further risks.

The response involved the Federal Fire Service, Sokoto State Fire Service, Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Sokoto State Urban Planning and Development Authority, the State Association of Civil Engineers, members of the media, and the host community.

Assessment at the scene revealed that fifteen (15) construction workers were present when the building collapsed. Fortunately, none of the workers was trapped or injured, and no casualty was recorded.

The successful emergency response underscores the importance of collaboration among emergency response agencies and stakeholders in safeguarding lives and mitigating the impact of disasters. Investigation into the cause of the building collapse is currently ongoing by the relevant authorities.
