The African Democratic Congress (ADC), through its Kebbi Campaign Council, has called on the Kebbi State Government to explain the cost, procurement process and intended benefits of its reported donation of 10 Hilux vehicles in December 2025 in connection with the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway project.

The party said the request was aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, stressing that government expenditure should be open to legitimate public scrutiny.

In a press release signed by Bello Abdullahi, Director of Strategic Communications of the ADC Kebbi Campaign Council, on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the party clarified that its demand should not be interpreted as opposition to infrastructure development or cooperation between federal and state governments.

According to the statement, the ADC recognises the importance of the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway and its potential to enhance transportation, trade and economic activities.

However, it maintained that development initiatives must be accompanied by transparency and accountability in the utilisation of public funds.

The party consequently asked the state government to disclose the total cost of the 10 Hilux vehicles, the purchase price of each vehicle, the budgetary provision under which the expenditure was incurred and the government authority that approved the purchase.

It also sought details of the company that supplied the vehicles and the procurement procedure adopted, as well as the institution that formally received them.

The ADC further requested clarification on whether the vehicles were intended for security operations, project supervision or other administrative purposes.

Other issues raised by the party include the availability of procurement records, payment evidence and official handover documents for public scrutiny.

It also asked the government to identify the institution responsible for the vehicles’ maintenance, fuelling, insurance and other operational expenses, while explaining the specific benefits the donation is expected to bring to the people of Kebbi State.

The campaign council emphasised that its questions did not constitute allegations of wrongdoing but were intended to help citizens understand how public resources were being utilised.

“These are legitimate questions concerning public expenditure,” the statement said, adding that citizens deserved clear explanations about government spending.

The ADC therefore urged the Kebbi State Government to issue a comprehensive public explanation and make relevant records available in accordance with applicable laws.

The party also pledged to continue its role as an opposition organisation through constructive engagement, responsible scrutiny and the promotion of transparency in governance.

It reiterated that public resources belong to the people and that accountability remains essential to ensuring that government spending serves the public interest.
