The suspension of the industrial action embarked upon by the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN) in Kano State marks a significant step toward restoring stability within the legal and administrative structure of the state. The decision, announced on Friday, 13th March 2026, followed extensive deliberations between representatives of the association and the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), alongside the Kano State Government.

Industrial disputes are not uncommon in any developing administrative system, especially where the interests of workers intersect with broader institutional reforms. However, what distinguishes responsible leadership from reactive governance is the ability to resolve such issues through dialogue, patience, and mutual respect. The recent development in Kano stands as a clear example of how constructive engagement can produce meaningful solutions.

The Kano State Government demonstrated a commendable commitment to resolving the matter by engaging directly with the stakeholders involved. The government delegation was led by the Acting Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, whose leadership and administrative experience played an important role in guiding the discussions toward a peaceful resolution. She was joined by the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as well as the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

After several hours of deliberations, both parties reached an agreement that led to the suspension of the industrial action. This outcome reflects not only the willingness of the government to listen to the concerns of its workforce but also the maturity and patriotism demonstrated by the leadership of LOAN and the TUC.

It is important to acknowledge that sustainable governance depends heavily on collaboration between government institutions and professional bodies. When both sides approach disagreements with sincerity and a commitment to the public interest, the result is always progress rather than confrontation.

The role played by the leadership of LOAN, the TUC, and other critical stakeholders deserves recognition. Their readiness to engage in dialogue and ultimately suspend the strike underscores a strong sense of responsibility to the people of Kano State and to the smooth functioning of its justice system.

This development also reinforces the broader policy direction of the present administration under the banner of “Kano First.” The principle behind this agenda is simple but powerful: prioritizing the welfare, stability, and development of Kano State above partisan or sectional interests. The successful resolution of the dispute demonstrates that when the Kano First philosophy is applied through practical leadership and sincere engagement, it yields positive outcomes.

Beyond the immediate relief brought by the suspension of the strike, the episode provides an important lesson about governance. Effective leadership is not measured solely by policy announcements but by the ability to build consensus, manage disagreements, and maintain institutional harmony.

As Kano State continues its journey toward greater development and administrative reform, the spirit of cooperation displayed in resolving this dispute should serve as a guiding example for future engagements between government and organized professional bodies.

Indeed, the peaceful resolution of the issue affirms a growing culture of dialogue and responsible governance in Kano State — a culture that reflects the true meaning of Kano First.
