The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a five‑member syndicate responsible for a series of armed robberies, abductions, and “one‑chance” operations along major highways in Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Jega, Maiyama, and Aliero Local Government Areas. The suspects: Abubakar Muhammad (male, of Bancho village, Tambuwal), Shehu Ango (male), Shamsu Daudu (male), Shuaibu Umar (male), and Aisha Usmanu (female) were arrested following coordinated operations.

The syndicate specialised in posing as commercial vehicle operators, luring passengers, and robbing them at knifepoint or with threats, often abandoning victims in remote bushes. In a particularly grave case, the gang withdrew over one million naira from a victim’s account and also demanded ransom from relatives before releasing their victim. In another incident on 30th April 2026 along Tashar Hauwa (Jega–Kalgo Road), the same syndicate robbed a female passenger, Shamsiyya Samaila, of her Infinix Android phone, power bank, charger, and Opay ATM card, later withdrawing ₦9,000 from the card.

Further investigations uncovered the syndicate’s involvement in multiple “one‑chance” robberies and abductions along the highways. Efforts to arrest remaining at‑large suspects are ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police has cautioned commuters against boarding suspicious vehicles along highways, urging them to instead use designated parks and bus stations. The Command assures the public that criminal elements will be pursued relentlessly and urges residents to continue providing timely information.
