Governor Ahmed Aliyu has inspected the ongoing renovation of Gada General Hospital and expressed satisfaction with the quality of work being executed by the contractor.
The Governor, who was taken round the project by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Wurno, commended the quality of the renovation. He, however, directed the contractor to expedite the completion of the project.
“We need this project urgently; therefore, the contractor must speed up the work,” Governor Aliyu said.
Earlier, while briefing the Governor on the progress of the project, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Wurno, said that Gada General Hospital, established in 1992, was last renovated in 2019 during the administration of former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko before the present administration awarded a fresh contract for its comprehensive renovation.
According to Dr. Wurno, the contract was awarded at the cost of N313,367,123.56, out of which the contractor has so far received 84 per cent of the contract sum.
He disclosed that the project, has reached 94 per cent completion and includes the renovation of all hospital structures, installation of a solar power system, construction of a solar-powered borehole, remodelling of the labour ward, renovation of 14 staff quarters, construction of access roads, and installation of solar-powered streetlights within the hospital premises.
Dr. Wurno added that the hospital has a staff strength of 110, comprising doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, and other healthcare professionals.
He further stated that the hospital has recorded remarkable improvements in service delivery, with increased patronage and better patient outcomes, particularly in antenatal care (ANC), immunisation, and safe deliveries, following the ongoing renovation.
The Governor was accompanied on the inspection by the State APC Leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Goronyo, the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, the Emir of Kiyawa, Major Sanusi Muhammad Asha (Rtd.), the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, the Chief of Staff, Government House Sokoto, Aminu Haliru Dikko, mni, the Head of Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed, members of the National and State Assemblies, commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and other top government officials.
