The Director-General of the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council and Senator representing Zamfara Central, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, alongside the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu); Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu; and Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal, paid a courtesy visit to the Sultanate Council in Sokoto as part of efforts to formally commence mobilisation and campaign activities for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the success of all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Senator Yari, who was accompanied by prominent members of the Presidential Campaign Council, led the delegation to the Sultan’s Palace in Sokoto.
The visit to the Sultanate Council was the delegation’s first port of call, underscoring the immense respect the Campaign Council attaches to the traditional institution and the Sultan of Sokoto as a father, custodian of the Islamic faith and a respected voice for peace, unity and national cohesion.
Speaking at the Sultan’s Palace, Senator Yari said the delegation was primarily in Sokoto to seek the royal blessing, prayers and fatherly guidance of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, as the Campaign Council prepares to embark on an extensive mobilisation campaign across the country.
According to him, the Council recognises the critical role traditional institutions play in promoting peace, stability and understanding among Nigerians, particularly as the country prepares for another crucial electoral cycle.
He said the delegation was also at the palace to reaffirm its commitment to a campaign anchored on peace, issue-based engagement, inclusivity and the collective interest of Nigerians.
Senator Yari stressed that the people of Northern Nigeria have strong reasons to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to the region and the support and attention his administration has continued to give to development challenges confronting the North.
He noted that the APC-led Federal Government had continued to implement policies and projects aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians, stimulating economic growth, strengthening infrastructure and addressing security challenges across the country.
The Campaign Council Director-General also highlighted the administration’s economic reforms and ongoing efforts to improve national security, expressing optimism that the measures being implemented by the Tinubu administration would continue to yield positive results and create a stronger foundation for sustainable development.
He called on Nigerians, particularly APC supporters and stakeholders, to remain united and focused as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
Also speaking, the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, commended the Sultan of Sokoto for his fatherly leadership and consistent contributions to peace, unity and national development.
Governor Aliyu expressed confidence that the Sultan would continue to provide the wisdom, guidance and moral leadership required to strengthen peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
He explained that the delegation’s decision to begin its engagement with the Sultanate Council was deliberate, given the important role the Sultan occupies as a highly respected traditional and spiritual leader whose influence extends beyond Sokoto State.
The Governors of Kebbi and Zamfara States also joined in acknowledging the Sultan’s enduring contributions to peace, unity and the development of the country.
Responding, the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, expressed delight at receiving the delegation.
The Sultan welcomed the visit and assured the delegation of his continued prayers for the success of leaders entrusted with the responsibility of governing the country.
His Eminence emphasised the importance of leadership that priorities the welfare, security and unity of the people, while urging political actors to conduct their activities peacefully and responsibly.
The Sultan prayed for the success of the Campaign Council in its forthcoming mobilisation efforts and encouraged all stakeholders to uphold peace, mutual respect and the unity of Nigeria throughout the electoral process.
The visit marks the beginning of the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council’s broader engagement and mobilisation efforts as it seeks to consolidate support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
