Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, has described the massive turnout at the flag-off of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign in Sokoto as a demonstration of popular support for the party’s presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Welcoming Atiku, the Wazirin Adamawa, to what he described as his “first home,” Tambuwal said the people of Sokoto had reaffirmed their deep affection for the former vice president and their confidence in his leadership.

He noted that Atiku received an overwhelming reception from the airport, through the streets of Sokoto, to the ADC campaign headquarters, which also served as the venue for the campaign flag-off.

Atiku and the party’s leadership also paid a courtesy visit to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, at his palace.

The event was attended by the ADC vice-presidential candidate, His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi; the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark; National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; members of the Presidential Campaign Council; and other party leaders and dignitaries.

Tambuwal alleged that party members faced intimidation, harassment and deliberate attempts to prevent their participation, alongside the denial of access to a campaign venue and hotel accommodation. He said these obstacles were nevertheless met with an unprecedented show of support and solidarity from the people.

He described the turnout as a significant political statement and an indication of Nigerians’ growing desire for Atiku’s leadership as the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The senator expressed appreciation to members of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, led by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, and particularly the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, for their commitment and support.

He also thanked the people of Sokoto State for their enthusiasm and solidarity, which he said made the campaign flag-off a remarkable success.

Tambuwal reaffirmed the party’s determination to build a better Nigeria and expressed optimism about its prospects in the 2027 presidential election.

“Together, we remain resolute in our determination to build a better Nigeria and to make Nigeria affordable again,” he said.
