The Sokoto State Government has completed and commissioned 30 Jumaat mosques across the state in the past 30 months, part of efforts to strengthen religious institutions and foster community cohesion.
The announcement was made on Monday by Assoc. Prof. Jabir Mai Hula, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, during the opening of a two-day workshop on combating misinformation and promoting media literacy among Islamic clerics. The training was organised by Alkalanci in collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Mai Hula emphasised that misinformation poses political, social, and religious challenges, particularly as Nigeria approaches another election cycle.
He urged clerics to verify information before sharing it, warning that unverified claims can mislead the public and escalate tensions.
“This administration remains committed to promoting accurate knowledge and responsible public communication,” he said. “In the last 30 months, we have completed and inaugurated 30 Jumaat mosques that were renovated and upgraded across the state to support our clerics, congregations, and communities.”
The commissioner also highlighted a recent capacity-building programme for 2,300 clerics, as part of a broader strategy to curb misinformation within religious spaces.
