ZMSG Treats  1.1M  School -Aged Children Suffering From Bilharziasis

The Zamfara State government has treated over 1.1 million Children suffering from Bilharziasis, and 78, 000 persons were treated for soil -transmitted Helmets in Bakura, local government.

The  commissioner of Health, Dr, Nafisa Mohammed Maradun, made this known today at a press briefing held at the ministry's conference hall to mark this year's World Neglected Tropical Diseases NTDs.

According to her, Zamfara State with support of their partner, Sight savers has also achieved in operating 200 patients with Hydrocele (Scrotal Swelling) accross the state for free in the effort to eliminate Elephantiasis.

The commissioner also stated that it also achieved in the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) where they treated Onchocerciasis (River Blindness )Transmission in six local governments that are previously endemic, which includes, Bukkuyum,Anka, Maru, Bungudu, Tsafe, and Zurmi.

 The commissioner added that, Trachoma endemic in Bungudu, Kaura, Maradun,Tsafe and Zurmi local governments are under control, hence no longer in need of preventive drug treatment, so also lymphatic Filariasis in all the local government in the state are endemic are under control.

"All the local government areas  have attained five or more than five effective therapeutic coverages during the mass administration of medicine and are now due for the Pre- Transmission Assessment Survey.
She however assured the people of Zamfara State that, the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal is committed to improving health indices in the state through system strengthening by ensuring procurement  and distribution of medical to all health facilities.

Dr, Nafisa added that, recruitment of qualified health workers in communities where their services are much needed and upgrading infrastructures. She further said the ministry under her watch has resolved to ensure the release of funds for NTDs activities as a sign of commitment towards the program's sustainability.

She then expressed her sincere appreciation and gratitude to their partners ( Sight savers) working in the state supporting the fight and control of Neglected Tropical Diseases.
