President Bola Tinubu has accused the opposition of contributing to hunger and poverty in Nigeria, defending his administration’s economic policies as he officially launched his campaign for a second term in office.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential campaign flag-off over the weekend, Tinubu said his government was working to eliminate the hardship he attributed to the opposition. He also promised Nigerians greater prosperity if re-elected, assuring supporters they would not regret giving him another term.

However, African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar criticised the remarks, describing them as an attempt by Tinubu to evade responsibility for the economic hardship Nigerians are experiencing under his administration.

Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, also accused the administration of presenting a misleading picture of economic recovery by highlighting the country’s rising foreign reserves.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to inaugurate its National Campaign Council today, with the party’s national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, as chairman and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as co-chairman.

The party’s National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, will serve as vice chairman, while Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will be co-vice chairman.

Other prominent members of the council include Babachir Lawal, Ikenga Enekweizu, Sidi Bomi Abdul, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Victor Umeh, Buba Galadima and Pat Utomi. Former Arise News anchor Constance Ikokwu is also listed as the campaign spokesperson.
