Tambuwal Visits Bodinga Attack Victims, Urges Tinubu to Prioritise Security Over Politics, Donates ₦20 Million to Displaced Families

Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to shift his attention from politics to the urgent task of addressing Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.

Senator Tambuwal made the call on Thursday during a sympathy visit to Bodinga Local Government Area, where he commiserated with victims of recent bandit attacks and residents displaced by the violence.

Addressing community members and displaced families, the former governor expressed deep concern over the recurring attacks across Sokoto State, describing the situation as unfortunate and reiterating that the foremost responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property.

“We are here in Bodinga Local Government to commiserate with the people over the recent attacks by bandits. We are deeply concerned about what is happening here, across Sokoto State and indeed the entire country.”

Tambuwal expressed concern that the Federal Government appeared to be placing greater emphasis on political activities than on confronting the nation’s security challenges.

“This is the time the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should focus on the number one responsibility of government as enshrined in the Constitution—the security of lives and property. The President, his team and his party should devote their energy to addressing insecurity rather than engaging in electioneering activities.”

He urged President Tinubu, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to redirect the administration’s priorities towards restoring peace and security across the country.

“I call upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deemphasise politics and focus on governance, particularly the issue of insecurity. It is only when people are safe and secure that they can fully benefit from roads and other infrastructure.”

The former governor also reaffirmed his longstanding support for the establishment of state police, noting that he backed the constitutional amendment despite concerns that some governors could misuse the outfit for political purposes.

“Yes, we are in opposition in Sokoto State, but I supported state police because I believe every genuine effort aimed at restoring security should be encouraged. It is only when there is security that there can be meaningful development.”

Tambuwal recalled that he had consistently advocated stronger security measures since his days as a member of the House of Representatives.

Referring to a similar attack in Tureta Local Government Area a few weeks ago, in which more than 80 people were reportedly killed, he prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and announced a donation of ₦10 million to displaced families in Bodinga and ₦10 million to displaced families in Tureta, bringing his total support to ₦20 million.

“I hereby support our brothers and sisters displaced by these unfortunate attacks in Bodinga with the sum of ₦10 million, and I extend the same support to those displaced in Tureta as we work with NEMA to provide relief. May Allah grant those who lost their lives Aljannatul Firdaus and bring an end to this menace.”
