Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has congratulated the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the composition of its Presidential Campaign Council, describing it as thoughtful and inclusive.
In a post on his X handle, Tambuwal commended the ADC under the leadership of Distinguished Senator David Mark, GCON, and congratulated those entrusted with leading the party’s presidential campaign.
He particularly congratulated H.E. Chief John Odigie Oyegun, Chairman of the Campaign Advisory Board; Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, Chairman of the National Campaign Council; Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Deputy Chairman; and Senator Austin Akobundu, Director-General and Campaign Manager.
Tambuwal said the composition brings together individuals with diverse experiences in public service, politics, policy, administration and grassroots mobilisation from different parts of the country.
According to him, the responsibility entrusted to members of the campaign structure goes beyond individual appointments or personal recognition, describing it as a call to service at an important moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
He reiterated his position that fairness, inclusion and national balance must remain central to the country’s politics, stressing that the ADC must demonstrate through its own choices the values and principles it seeks to bring to the governance of Nigeria.
Tambuwal noted that the task ahead is enormous and called on members of the party to close ranks, strengthen their structures, engage Nigerians across every region and community, and take the party’s message to the people.
Reaffirming his commitment to the ADC and its presidential ticket, Tambuwal expressed confidence in former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
“I remain fully committed to our party and our collective effort to rescue Nigeria and build a country that works for all its citizens. I am confident that the Atiku/Amaechi ticket will rescue Nigeria and provide the leadership required to address the challenges confronting our nation,” he said.
It may be recalled that in recent weeks, reports circulated on social media suggesting that Tambuwal had been appointed Director-General of the ADC Presidential Campaign.
Responding to the reports at the time, Tambuwal expressed gratitude for the goodwill and confidence shown in him but maintained that the position of Campaign Director-General should be entrusted to a capable party leader from another part of the country. He argued that with both the National Chairman of the ADC and the presidential candidate coming from the northern part of the country, fairness, national balance and political inclusiveness would be better served by having the campaign leadership drawn from another region.
Tambuwal had stressed that the principles of fairness and inclusion should not apply only when politically convenient, adding that the ADC must demonstrate through its own decisions the inclusive Nigeria it seeks to build.
He wished the Campaign Council wisdom, unity and success in the discharge of the important national assignment.
