Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has assured communities affected by recent banditry attacks of his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, disclosing that the state government has ordered new security vehicles, including armoured vehicles, to strengthen security operations across the state.

Governor Idris gave the assurance on Monday during sympathy visits to Jandutsi in Jega Local Government Area and Andarai in Maiyama Local Government Area, where he commiserated with victims of recent attacks and displaced residents, while reviewing measures being taken to restore peace and reinforce security in the affected communities.

The Governor expressed deep sympathy to the affected families and communities, assuring them that his administration would continue to deploy all necessary resources and measures to strengthen security, support affected residents and prevent further attacks.

He disclosed that the government had ordered the procurement of additional security vehicles, including armoured vehicles, to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies and enable them to respond more swiftly and effectively to emerging threats.

According to him, additional security personnel had also been requested and deployed to vulnerable areas, with the government working to ensure that the personnel are properly positioned in communities facing security challenges.

Governor Idris said the objective was to create an environment where residents could go about their legitimate activities without fear and sleep peacefully in their homes, stressing that the government would not relent in its efforts to protect citizens.

The Governor also stressed the need for stronger collaboration among neighbouring states, particularly in border communities where criminals could exploit jurisdictional boundaries to carry out attacks. He therefore called on governors in the region and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen inter-state cooperation and intelligence sharing in the collective fight against insecurity.

He further directed the provision of additional relief assistance to communities affected by the attacks, assuring victims and displaced persons that the state government would continue to respond to their immediate humanitarian needs while implementing longer-term security measures.

At Jandutsi, the District Head, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar, and other community leaders commended the Governor for the relief assistance extended to affected residents and for personally visiting the community despite being away when the attacks occurred. They appealed for the deployment of permanent security personnel and additional support for local vigilantes to enhance community security.

Similarly, at Andarai, the District Head, Alhaji Muhammad Aliyu, and the Chairman of Maiyama Local Government Area, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Liba, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the relief materials and financial assistance provided to victims and displaced persons.

They appealed for increased security presence, temporary shelters for displaced residents and urgent intervention to address the community’s longstanding water challenges.

In response, Governor Idris directed relevant officials to assess the water situation in Andarai and provide immediate and appropriate intervention, including the deployment of heavy-duty drilling equipment capable of accessing underground water in the area’s rocky terrain.

The Governor called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders and residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible information and cooperating with ongoing security efforts.

He also urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant and prayerful, assuring them that the government would continue to work with security agencies and relevant stakeholders until peace and stability are restored across affected communities.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, expressed sympathy with the affected communities and commended the state government’s sustained interventions, assuring residents that additional security measures were already being implemented.

Other speakers, including the House Leader, Hon. Faruk Nasarawa, and Alhaji Jafar Ahmad, former Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service and APC House of Representatives candidate, commended the Governor’s response to the security situation and his interventions in support of affected communities.

Governor Idris reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains a central responsibility of his administration, stressing that the government would continue to strengthen security operations, support affected communities and take every necessary measure within its powers to restore lasting peace across Kebbi State.
