Gov Idris Commissions Over 12,000 Furniture, Promises Welfare Packages for Kebbi Teachers

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has commissioned 12,779 pieces of furniture for teachers, primary and post-primary schools across the state, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving education infrastructure and enhancing teacher’s welfare.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held at Emir Haruna Rashid College,Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday,Governor Idris described the provision of furniture as both a fulfillment his campaign promises and a moral obligation to create a conducive learning environment for students and teachers across Kebbi State.

“In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful, this is part of our promise that we will continue, as a matter of urgency, to provide furniture, in addition to renovating and constructing various primary and post-primary schools in Kebbi State. We promised to equip them, and this is part of our obligation as a government,” the Governor stated.

He emphasized that the gesture marks the beginning of a sustained intervention, directing that the furniture be shared equally 50/50 between the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Universal Basic Education Board to ensure equitable distribution across schools.

He assured that additional supplies would follow until schools in the state are adequately furnished.

Governor Idris further reiterated his administration’s resolve to prioritize teachers’ welfare, declaring that the era of treating teachers as second-class workers in Kebbi State is over.

He disclosed that by 2026, the state government will introduce a comprehensive welfare package for primary and post-primary school teachers.
The package will include access to soft loans for the purchase of vehicles, motorcycles, housing support, and other essential needs.

“We want our teachers to continue to feel a strong sense of belonging. By God’s grace, Insha’Allah, we will introduce a package that teachers will greatly benefit from,” he assured.

In her remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Associate Professor Halima Bande, expressed profound appreciation to the Governor for what she described as unprecedented support for the education sector.

She noted that the commissioning of 12,779 pieces of furniture would significantly enhance teaching and learning across schools in the state. The Commissioner also commended the Governor for the transparent recruitment of 2,000 qualified teachers, stressing that merit was strictly upheld throughout the process.

According to her, more than 70 percent of the Governor’s campaign promises to the education sector have already been fulfilled.

She further commended Direct Contact Company for executing the project in strict compliance with the contract specifications, noting that the quality of the furniture assures durability and long-term serviceability

The event was attended by top government functionaries, including the Former Governor of the State His Excellency Ambassador Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari, education stakeholders who lauded the Governor’s sustained investment in human capital development.
