Gov Aliyu Hails Public Hearing on Constitution Review as Beacon of Democracy

The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has commended the ongoing public hearing on the review of the 1999 constitution, describing it as a shining example of democracy in action. The public hearing, organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Review of the 1999 Constitution, North-West Centre B, is being held at the International Conference Centre Kasarawa, Sokoto State.
According to him, the public hearing provides a platform for citizens to engage with the government and shape the country's future. He emphasized that the event showcases the importance of citizen participation in shaping the country's future and ensuring that the constitution reflects the needs and aspirations of all Nigerians.
The Governor was represented at the event by his Deputy, Engineer Idris Mohammed Gobir. The proposed amendments to the constitution cover crucial areas such as local government, electoral, judicial, and legislative reforms. These reforms are expected to address some of the country's most pressing challenges, including corruption, insecurity, and poor governance.
He commended the National Assembly for their foresight in proposing these alterations and encouraged citizens from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States to freely share their views on the proposed amendments.
The Chairman of the Review Committee for North-West Centre B, Hon. Sada Soli Jibia, noted that this review process is the most inclusive and comprehensive in Nigeria's history.
Hon. Jibia emphasized that the process ensures representation for every Nigerian, regardless of state, status, or gender. He urged citizens to participate actively by submitting their memoranda to contribute to the committee's deliberations. He assured that all submissions would be carefully considered and used to inform the final recommendations.
The public hearing is a significant step towards refining the country's constitution and promoting good governance. It demonstrates the government's commitment to democracy and citizen participation, and it is expected to yield a more inclusive and effective constitution.
