The Bauchi Women Coalition for Women’s Inclusion, Equity and Good Governance has called on the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) to nominate a female deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.

The coalition specifically appealed to the PRP governorship candidate, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, to select a woman as his running mate, arguing that women and youths constitute the majority of the electorate and deserve adequate representation in leadership.

In a statement issued to journalists in Bauchi and signed by the Coalition’s director of media and communication, Hajiya Hajara Musa, the group said greater inclusion of women in governance would strengthen democratic institutions and promote sustainable development.

“The Coalition believes that women’s inclusion in leadership strengthens governance, promotes social development, and ensures that the voices of women, children, youths and other vulnerable groups are adequately represented in government,” the statement said.

According to the coalition, choosing a female deputy governorship candidate would not only demonstrate the party’s commitment to inclusive leadership but also serve as a strategic move capable of attracting the support of the majority of voters.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s political participation and declared its support for the emergence of a qualified and competent woman as Deputy Governor of Bauchi State in the 2027 elections.

The statement added that, in line with this commitment, the coalition supports the governorship aspiration of Senator Shehu Buba Umar and urged political stakeholders to consider selecting an experienced and capable woman as his running mate.

It maintained that such a decision would reflect the principles of inclusion, equity and good governance while harnessing the wealth of experience, competence and leadership capacity of women in Bauchi State.

The coalition further pledged to continue advocating for increased participation of women in decision-making processes through peaceful democratic engagement at all levels.
