BWSO To Construct Standard Refuse Dump Site For Bauchi Community

By Khalid Idris Doya

The Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) has announced plans to construct a standard refuse dumping site for residents of Aminu Street in Bauchi metropolis as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and advancing Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives across Bauchi State.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the organisation’s public relations officer, Kamal Ibrahim.

According to the statement, the proposed refuse collection facility will provide residents with a designated and hygienic waste disposal point, helping to reduce indiscriminate dumping of refuse and improve environmental sanitation within the community.

The decision followed an assessment visit to the area on Monday by the management and staff of BWSO, led by the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer, Malam Mukhtar Ahmed Jarmajo.

Speaking during the visit, Jarmajo said the intervention forms part of the organisation’s broader commitment to supporting communities through practical and sustainable initiatives that enhance public health and environmental cleanliness.

He noted that poor waste management poses significant health and environmental risks, stressing that the project is aimed at creating a cleaner environment and reducing the spread of diseases associated with unhygienic sanitation practices.

Jarmajo also urged residents to take ownership of the facility upon completion by ensuring its proper use and maintenance.

He emphasised that sustainable development can only be achieved through collective responsibility and active community participation.

In his response, a resident of the area, Ibrahim Umar Wunti, expressed appreciation to BWSO for the intervention, describing the project as a timely and welcome solution to a longstanding challenge facing the community.

He explained that residents had endured years without a proper waste disposal facility, a situation that often led to indiscriminate refuse dumping and environmental concerns in the area.

Ibrahim commended the leadership of BWSO for its responsiveness to community needs and for consistently implementing people-centred projects across Bauchi State.

He further assured the organisation of the community’s full support and cooperation to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of the project.
