ASUP ATAPOLY Praises Bala’s Transformation Efforts, Seeks Implementation of CATA Salary Structure

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAPOLY), Bauchi Chapter, has commended the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for his infrastructural and human capital development initiatives at the institution.
The union specifically acknowledged the governor’s interventions in road construction, payment of compensation for land acquired for the expansion of the Polytechnic, fencing of the entire institution, accreditation funding and other infrastructural projects.
Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi on Thursday, Chairman of ASUP, ATAPOLY Chapter, Comrade Nazif Abba Pali, also commended Governor Bala for appointing principal officers from within the Polytechnic, describing the initiatives as measures that demonstrate the government’s commitment to strengthening the institution and promoting sustainable educational development in the state.
Pali further appreciated the governor for his financial support towards the successful hosting of the Polytechnic’s First International Conference in December 2025.
He said the intervention contributed to the successful organisation of the conference, which provided a platform for intellectual engagement, knowledge sharing and discussions on sustainable economic development.
“We are grateful for this intervention and the confidence it reflects in the academic community of ATAPOLY,” he said.
The ASUP chairman also commended the installation of solar-powered streetlights across the Polytechnic campus, noting that the intervention had improved illumination and contributed to creating a more conducive environment for teaching, learning and other academic activities.
“We recognise this effort as part of the government’s commitment to improving facilities and creating a more conducive environment for teaching, learning, and other academic activities,” Pali said.
He also acknowledged the administration’s attention to staff welfare, stressing that improved welfare remained essential to sustaining staff morale, institutional stability and effective service delivery.
“We commend these efforts and encourage the government to sustain its support for the Polytechnic,” he added.
However, the union appealed to Governor Bala Mohammed to facilitate the implementation of the newly reviewed salary structure and the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) for academic staff of the institution.
According to Pali, implementation of the approved entitlements would significantly improve staff motivation and productivity while enhancing the continued delivery of quality education at ATAPOLY.
“The implementation of these entitlements will contribute significantly to staff motivation, improved productivity, and the continued delivery of quality education.
“We believe that a motivated workforce is fundamental to achieving the administration’s educational development objectives,” he said.
The union therefore urged the relevant authorities to give the matter favourable consideration and ensure that academic staff benefit from the approved provisions.
Pali assured that ASUP remained committed to constructive engagement, industrial harmony and the sustainable development of ATAPOLY.
He said through continued collaboration between the government, management and staff, the Polytechnic could attain greater academic excellence and institutional progress.
“We look forward to continued collaboration and further interventions that will strengthen the institution and improve the welfare of its staff,” he added.
