Tension reportedly erupted in Gwashi town, Zamfara State, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, after an angry crowd allegedly chased the convoy of Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mummuni during a condolence visit to communities devastated by repeated bandit attacks.

According to accounts circulating online, the deputy governor’s visit was met with hostility as frustrated residents reportedly pursued his convoy, with some allegedly throwing stones at the vehicles.

The confrontation has been linked to growing anger over persistent killings, kidnappings and insecurity that have left communities across Zamfara State living in fear.

The Zamfara State Government had announced a condolence delegation led by the deputy governor to communities affected by deadly attacks in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.

The visit was intended to sympathise with grieving families and demonstrate government solidarity with victims of insecurity.

However, circulating accounts suggest that the atmosphere became tense as residents allegedly expressed their frustration over the continued activities of armed bandits.

The reported incident comes against the backdrop of a devastating attack on a military-escorted traders’ convoy travelling from Gwashi towards Nasarawa Market on October 10.
