Gov Idris Charges Ulama, Clergymen on Unity, Good Governance at Kebbi Peace Workshop
Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has reaffirmed the critical role of religious leaders in promoting purposeful leadership, peace, and security, as the state government convened a high-level workshop for Ulama and clergymen in Birnin Kebbi.
The workshop, themed “The Role of Ulama and Clergymen in Ushering Purposeful Leadership, Peace and Security in Kebbi State,” was held on Wednesday at the Presidential Banquet Hall, bringing together Islamic scholars, Christian clerics, and key stakeholders from across the state.
Addressing participants, Governor Idris emphasized that the gathering marks the beginning of sustained engagement between government and religious leaders, noting that such interactions will further strengthen unity, moral guidance, and collective responsibility in governance.
He attributed the successes recorded by his administration to the grace of Allah as well as the continued prayers and support of religious scholars, stressing that effective leadership thrives on consultation, teamwork, and openness to constructive advice.
The Governor reiterated that his administration is deeply rooted in faith and guided by a firm belief in the power of prayer, noting that his mandate is a product of divine intervention and the goodwill of the people.
Highlighting achievements in the health sector, Governor Idris disclosed that several General Hospitals across the state have been renovated and equipped, while others are at various stages of completion. He added that 242 Primary Healthcare Centres have been upgraded to enhance grassroots healthcare delivery.
In the education sector, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to free education, explaining that the policy is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents amid rising tuition costs in tertiary institutions.
He further revealed that the administration has invested nearly ₦300 million in the feeding programme for secondary school students, renovated about 2,000 schools, and distributed 100,000 desks and chairs to create a conducive learning environment.
On infrastructure, the Governor noted that massive road construction projects are ongoing across the state, including in Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Yauri, and Zuru, with additional projects set to be flagged off in the coming weeks to improve connectivity and economic activities.
Governor Idris also highlighted progress in governance and workers’ welfare, including the implementation of improved minimum wage for local government staff and primary school teachers, as well as investments in the renovation of traditional rulers’ residences.
While acknowledging existing security challenges, he called for sustained support for security agencies and intensified prayers, expressing optimism that collective efforts will consolidate the improving security situation in the state.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Arc. Muhammad Sani Aliyu, disclosed that 24 religious organisations, including CAN, participated in the workshop, describing clerics as key partners in promoting peace, unity, and good governance.
The workshop featured paper presentations by eminent scholars and clerics on leadership, governance, and peaceful coexistence, as well as special prayers for the state, the nation, and leaders at all levels, with a renewed call for sustained collaboration for the overall development of Kebbi State.
