The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) team, led by Prof. Mu’azu Shamaki, UNDP/NIMET Consultant, today paid a collaboration visit to the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to strengthen partnership on Climate Change Integration into SEMA Planning Activities in Sokoto State.

The visiting team was received by the Executive Secretary of Sokoto SEMA, Professor Abubakar Sambo Junaidu, who subsequently led the delegation to the office of the Special Adviser to Sokoto SEMA, Hon. Aminu Liman Bodinga.

During the engagement, both institutions discussed key areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing climate information services, disaster preparedness, early warning systems, and the integration of seasonal climate predictions into the Agency’s operational planning framework.

Members of the visiting delegation included Mustapha Mamman (Principal Meteorologist, NIMET Abuja), Muhammad Mansur (M&E Specialist, UNDP Office Abuja), Oyekan Kayode (Assistant Chief Meteorologist, NIMET Abuja), and their guide during the visit, Expert Chika Sani Torankawa.

As part of the visit, the team formally presented a publication of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency titled “2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction,” written in both English and Hausa, to the Sokoto SEMA Special Adviser, Hon. Aminu Liman Bodinga.

The document is expected to support informed decision-making and strengthen climate resilience strategies across the state.

The visit underscores the commitment of both institutions to fostering strategic collaboration in addressing the growing challenges of climate change and disaster risk management in Sokoto State.
