Delay Trails White Paper Committees on Review of Key Appointments in Sokoto

More than two years after their inauguration, the two committees constituted to draft a white paper on the review of key appointments made by the immediate past governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, are yet to submit any outcome, raising concerns over governance and compliance with due process.

The committees were set up by Governor Ahmad Aliyu on September 19, 2023, to review the appointments of traditional rulers, Permanent Secretaries, Directors-General and other senior civil servants made under the previous administration.

However, two years and four months after their constitution, no white paper has been released, leaving many of the affected appointees in a state of uncertainty. This prolonged delay has reportedly hindered their ability to effectively perform their duties, with implications for the smooth running of government operations.

Stakeholders say the absence of a clear outcome has complicated governance and weakened administrative efficiency, as several offices continue to operate without definitive legal backing or clarity on the status of the appointments.

Observers and concerned residents have urged the committees and the state government to take urgent steps to conclude the assignment and release the white paper in line with the law. They warn that continued delay could further strain the system and pose risks to the stability of the administration due to non-compliance with established procedures.

Calls are mounting for the government to act swiftly to resolve the matter and restore confidence in the state’s administrative processes.
