ZUNGERU HYDROELECTRIC POWER PROJECT TO BE COMMISSIONED FIRST QUARTER OF 2023 MINISTER OF POWER

 

The one point two billion dollars Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Project in Niger state that is expected to add seven hundred megawatts of electricity to the national grid is to be commissioned in the first quarter of next year. 

 
Minister of Power Engineer Abubakar Aliyu announced this during an inspection tour of the power plant in Zungeru.
 
Engineer Abubakar Aliyu who was accompanied to the visit by Secretary to the Niger State Government Ahmed Ibrahim Matane explained that the project has reached ninety eight percent level of completion.
 
The Minister who went around the major operating units of the power project pointed out that work on three of the turbines each producing 175 Mega Watts of electricity has been completed and tested effectively.
 
Engineer Abubakar Aliyu who expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment exhibited by contractors handling the project maintained that the completion of the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Project would add seven hundred MegaWatts to the national grid.
 
According to him, the Zungeru Power Project is part of strategies of the Federal Government to reposition power generation in phases throughout the country.
 
Secretary to the Niger State Government Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said the Zungeru Power Project is a multi-purpose electricity project that has abundant agricultural potential for the host communities to harness and enhance their economic status.
 
Project Manager Mr. Abiy Getahun who took the Minister and his entourage around the facilities of the project gave an assurance that work would be completed on schedule.
