Women in Jigawa state have called on the government to give women equal opportunities in the state civil service.
A retired permanent secretary in the state civil service, Hajiya Furaira Abdullahi stated this during a strategic engagement with civil society organizations and selected citizens on advocacies for manpower gap reduction in Jigawa state civil service held on Wednesday in Dutse the Jigawa state capital.
Abdullahi said girls are always facing issues with regards to western education in the state due to cultural practices.
She called on government and relevant stakeholders to put hands on deck to address the menace.
The programme which was supported by partnership to engage reform and learn PERL with the support from FCDO themed "Enhancing governance and service delivery in Jigawa state: The imperative of adequate staffing and position of Jigawa state civil service for leadership succession and transformation.
The Kano and Jigawa states team leader said the objective of the event is to facilitate interactive discussions with partners, civil societies and trade unions on the state of manpower in critical sectors in Jigawa state.
And to discuss high turnover among senior and management staff in the civil service and recommend possible solutions.
And lastly to discuss inadequate supply of the right caliber of female staff in the civil service and proffer possible solutions.
Managarciya correspondent Ali Rabiu Ali said the focal sectors were the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning Directorate (BEPD), Internal Revenue Service, Ministry of Education, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Establishment.
