We're proud of you, Vice President Kashim Shettima hails Super Eagles

Vice President Kashim Shettima has hailed the Super Eagles despite the loss at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations.

Addressing the team, Shettima said in part: "Yes we have tried our best and be rest assured that there is always a next time. Some countries exceed two, three weeks ago, we have come this far and be rest assured that we will come back waxing stronger in the next dispensation. There is a cause for celebration, we are the second best football nation in Africa, there is no cause to be sad, there is every cause for celebration.

"The nation is proud of you, you are the source of our national unity, because when the Super Eagles plays, no race, no region, no religion, you unite the nation.

"The nation is in grief, but the nation is in solidarity with you. Be rest assured that your names would be written in gold in the honour of contemporary football history in Nigeria. 

"There's no need for you to be sad, honestly we are very proud of you and the nation would adequately compensate you for your sacrifices.

The Super Eagles came second place after the Elephants of Ivory Coast beat them 2-1 on Sunday, February 11, to clinch the trophy and title of the winners of the AFCON 2023.
