South-West Governors Endorse Tinubu, Announce New Regional Security Strategy
Governors of Nigeria’s six South-West states—Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti—have publicly backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as they unveil a strengthened regional security framework.
At an emergency meeting in Ibadan, the governors resolved to:
Set up a South-West Security Fund (SWSF), overseen by their Special Advisers on Security, to coordinate and finance security initiatives across the region.
Launch a live, digital intelligence-sharing platform for real-time exchange of threat alerts, incident reports, and coordinated rapid response among all six states.
Declare that the establishment of State Police “can no longer be delayed,” pushing for a new layer of localized policing in the region.
Call for increased forest surveillance, warning of criminal infiltration into forest belts and urging federal support for forest guard deployment.
Address illegal mining and unregulated interstate migration, citing both as growing security and environmental threats.
In the meeting’s communiqué, they also commended President Tinubu, particularly praising his recent economic reforms and interventions on national security.
