Sokoto State Government Receives High Praise for Transformative Achievements

The Sokoto State Government has received high accolades from the President of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Dr. Peter Ndidi Ebeigbe, for its outstanding achievements in transforming the state.

During a courtesy visit to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Dr. Ebeigbe commended the governor's remarkable accomplishments, citing notable examples such as city transformation, road network development, upgrading of primary healthcare centers, and scholarship programs for medical students.

"Sokoto State's selection as the host for this year's annual medical conference is a testament to Governor Aliyu's vision and leadership," Dr. Ebeigbe stated. "Performing governors are not hidden, and Governor Aliyu's commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of his administration."

In his remarks, Governor Ahmed Aliyu reiterated his commitment to enhancing Sokoto State's healthcare delivery, a key component of his 9-point agenda. Particularly, the health sector received the second-largest allocation share in the 2025 budget.

Some of the key healthcare initiatives highlighted by the governor include:

*Providing essential healthcare services to pregnant women, ensuring their safety and well-being.

*Building and renovating health facilities to improve healthcare infrastructure and services.

*Recruiting 800 nurses and midwives to strengthen the healthcare workforce and improve service delivery.

*Providing scholarships to students pursuing medical studies abroad, with automatic employment offered to medical students upon completion of their studies.

*Providing health instruments to 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to enhance healthcare service delivery.

On hosting the national conference, Governor Aliyu assured the visiting president and his team that the state government will sponsor the conference. He later directed the state commissioner of health to liaise with the organizing committee and come up with a budget proposal for his review and necessary action.

Highlight of the event was presentation of souvenir by the governor to the visiting president of national postgraduate medical college of Nigeria.
