Sokoto PDP send sympathy message and call for assistance on Goronyo floods 

The Sokoto State PDP has expressed deep sympathy to the people affected by the recent flooding from the Goronyo Dam which caused  devastating impact on lives and property, particularly in the  communities downstream.

The PDP called for the  provision of emergency food supplies, shelter, and other essential necessities to the displaced persons.

The party also urged the deployment of medical teams to prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases and provide treatment to those affected.

It  also called for the conducting of a thorough assessment of damaged infrastructure, including roads, schools, and farmlands.

The party also called for the provision of support to the affected farmers, including seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs.

In a statement signed by the party's Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal,  the party called for urgent desilting and maintenance of the Goronyo and Bakolori dams to prevent the recurrence of the disaster.

The statement emphasised the need for the implementation of flood control measures, such as early warning systems and evacuation plans.

According to the statement, providing aid and implementing long-term solutions can mitigate the effects of the flooding and restore normalcy to the affected communities.

It added, "We urge the Federal Government and Sokoto State Government as well as rliverine Local Government areas to take immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis caused by the flooding.

"We also call on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders to provide assistance to the victims. "
