Sokoto Approves Construction of ₦487m Dormitory for UDUS, Other Projects

The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved several key projects to boost the state's development. According to Hon. Sambo Bello Danchadi, State Commissioner of Information and Orientation, the council, at its 7th regular meeting, approved the construction of a dormitory for male students of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, at a cost of ₦487,910,520.90 with a six-month completion period. This project aligns with the governor's pledge during the university's last convocation ceremony to address the accommodation shortage.

Additionally, the council approved the renovation of an office complex at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Sokoto Network Centre, which was gutted by fire last year.

Professor Isah Muhd Maishanu, State Commissioner for Higher Education, disclosed that the council approved the rehabilitation of township roads, including Force Avenue dual carriage road, at a cost of ₦985,885,800, and the construction of a roundabout and additional outfall and culvert linking the new roads in Mabera at a cost of ₦393,308,799.69. Furthermore, a drainage system will be constructed at Tafarki Road to alleviate flooding.

Professor Maishanu also announced the council's approval for the total renovation of Minanata Juma'at Mosque at a cost of ₦122,279,355.50, aiming to enhance the mosque's facilities and provide a better environment for worshippers.

Hon. Nura Dalhatu, State Commissioner for Environment, explained that to mitigate the effects of climate change, the government has approved the procurement of seedlings for plantation across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state at a cost of ₦142,080,000. This initiative is expected to promote environmental sustainability and enhance green cover.

Hon. Nura also disclosed that the council approved the replacement of an underground water pipe linking Abdullahi Fodio with Amadu Bello Way at a cost of over ₦228 million.

These approvals demonstrate the council's commitment to promoting education, infrastructure development, public services, and environmental sustainability in Sokoto State, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for residents and improving essential services.
