POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS MINNA: THE FEARS BY NIGERIANS----COMMISSIONER 

 

Journalists in the country have been asked to rally round the objective of the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census by canvassing support for a credible, reliable and acceptable exercise.

 
Federal Commissioner National Population Commission incharge of Niger state Malam Muhammad Dattijo Usman said this while addressing a Press Conference at the IBB Pen House Minna.
 
Malam Muhammad Dattijo Usman maintained that Journalists are critical stakeholders in achieving a credible exercise and called for more collaboration to succeed.
 
On the postponement of the exercise the Federal Commissioner allayed the fears by Nigerians that it was due to shortage of funds stressing that it was to enable the incoming administration of President elect Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to have an input on the exercise since it will be conducted during their tenure. 
 
Malam Muhammad Dattijo Usman further said ethnicity and religion were not treated on the questionnaire and advised Nigerians to be calm and ensure that they were counted during the exercise.
 
He said officials of the census are to work in their locality to avoid unnecessary mistakes since the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census will be different from all other censuses.
 
He also assured people in hard to reach areas in Niger state especially in four local government areas of Munya Mariga Shiroro and Rafi affected by banditry that they will be counted with ease. 
 
Malam Muhammad Dattijo Usman explained that they have taken adequate security measures including hybrid technology if necessary for the conduct of a hitch free National Population and Housing Census in Niger state and Nigeria 
 
He however added that training and retraining of officials to manned the exercise remain sacrosanct
