~ Northern Imam Publicly Rejects Alleged APC Scheme to Mobilize Mallams and Traditional Rulers for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election, Slams Government for Prioritizing Politics Over Citizens
A prominent northern Nigerian Imam has publicly rejected an alleged invitation to participate in a political mobilization plan reportedly aimed at securing support for the 2027 re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a viral video circulating across social media, the respected cleric delivered a direct and uncompromising message during a public gathering, stating that he would not allow his religious position to be used for political influence.
Speaking in Hausa, the Imam revealed that he was approached to join what he described as a government-backed effort to mobilize Islamic scholars and traditional rulers across northern Nigeria to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the gathering, the Imam said the proposal involved a massive financial mobilization effort.
“They told us that ₦500 billion has been set aside in the budget to mobilize Mallams and traditional rulers across the North to campaign for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. They invited me to join them in this project.”
The cleric said he rejected the offer outright and warned those behind the alleged plan never to approach him again.
“But I rejected it completely. I told them never to bring such a proposal to me again. I will not be part of any scheme that uses public funds for personal political gain, especially when our people are suffering from hardship, poverty, and neglect.
How can we accept such when hospitals lack basic supplies, schools are crumbling, and families struggle to eat?
I warn them sternly: Do not involve me in such matters again. Never bring this kind of proposal to my doorstep.
Do not come to me with such offers again. My responsibility is to God and to speak the truth, not to politicians or their money.”
As of the time of this report, neither the All Progressives Congress nor the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued an official response to the claims made in the video.
