NPC targets 100 percent birth, death registration in Jigawa

The national population commission (NPC) has targeted 100 percent birth and death registration in Jigawa state.

 

The director vital information department NPC Abuja Mathew Tamidayo Sunday, stated this on Monday, 14th May, 2023 in Dutse during two days state level kick-off operational plans for 2023 birth registration.
 
Sunday said according to multiple indicator cluster survey 2021/2022 shows that is only 23 percent of children were registered in Jigawa state.
 
He started that 77 children in the state are stateless because they don't have birth registration.
 
The programme was sponsored by United nations children fund (UNICEF) with a view to support the state in making sure that all child registered.
 
Fatima Adamu the child protection specialist UNICEF kano field office said effort has to be made in making sure that those children that are not registered to be registered to bring them back to the state's plan.
 
She said UNICEF support the NPC to ensure that birth and death have been registered 100 percent in Jigawa state looking at the low percentage of the registration.
 
She said birth registration is an identity to a child for him to benefits state plan on health and education benefits.
 
She said that the local government authorities shall actively support registration of new birth and deaths and provide sub registrars to cover all the wards in the rural and marginalize areas in the state.
 
The meeting attract various stakeholders in the state, such as religious leaders, traditional leaders, health personal, the media and local government chairmen.
 
The idea of mapping these stakeholders is to support their quarters in enlighten people to register their children and death for government to have easy way in making it's plan policies in the state.
