The North-East Secretary of the New Nigerian People Party (NNPP) and member of presidential council of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso's campaign, Dr. Babayo Liman and 17 local government executives have defected to People Democratic party (PDP) in Yobe state.

Dr. Babayo with his supporters disclosed this on Monday when briefed journalists at the NUJ secretariat in Damaturu, Yobe state capital.

Adding that, they were at the NUJ secretariat to inform the general public that he has resigned his appointment to join PDP in support of its presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

He said there were five national executives of NNPP that defected to PDP in the North-east.

Liman revealed that those who defected to PDP are; Alhaji Shehu Barau National treasurer from Bauchi, Hajiya Halima Tafawa Balewa, National zonal women leader, as well as public relations officer of the zone under NNPP and Ibrahim Tal the national zonal secretary of the party.

“NNPP has no structure at all. What are they going to bring for Nigerians? The party (NNPP) had a problem in Bauchi which lasted for more than 5 months without resolution. So if Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso cannot resolve a problem in a particular party in 5 months, we see no reason why we cannot defect from the party.

“Initially we have problems of insecurity in Nigeria which covers most parts of the North-east states during PDP administration and they have done everything possible to ensure that it doesn’t escalate.

“We hope that when Atiku Abubakar becomes president of Nigeria, he will do the same thing the PDP did years back.” He added.
