NDE trains senior citizens on entrepreneurship in Jigawa

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has trained seven elderly persons known as Senior Cititzens on entrepreneurship development in Jigawa.
The NDE Coordinator in the state, Mr Miwa Lasco, stated this in Dutse on Tuesday.
Lasco said the one-day training was conducted in collaboration with the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) in Dutse on Friday.
He explained that the beneficiaries, consisting of five males and two females, were trained thier respective indigenous crafts of weaving, carpentry, leather work, blacksmith, clay pot and basket making.
The coordinator added that being elderly people, have various skills in various craftsmanship, hence, the need to bring them under one umbrella and enhance their skills.
According to him, the gesture was aimed to carry the elderly along and make them come to the reality that the world has changed and there are new ways of doing business in order to effectively compete in the marketplace.
"The training was to improve the skills of these elderly people in their respective indigenous craftsmanship so as enable them compete in the market with their competitors.
"To achieve this, we trained them in market plan, costing of products, record keeping and customer service business plan," Lasco said.
The coordinator, who urged the benefiaries utilise the knowledge acquired, expresses the hope that they would be empowered with either tools or cash to enhance thier respective businesses.
