The former governor of Jigawa state Alhaji Sule Lamido said that leaders who studied at Government college Birnin Kudu have failed the education sector in the state.
Lamido stated this on Saturday during the Annual general meeting of the Government College Birnin Kudu old boys association (BIKOBA) held in the school's conference hall Birnin Kudu local government of Jigawa state.
He said when most of them are in school, they are comfortable, the school's hostels are very needed, likewise the learning environment.
According to him, leaders now neglect the education sector, especially basic and post basic schools.
He recalled that their time, education and health are the priorities of the government and followed by other important projects and programmes that will enhance the development of Nigeria.
He appealed to leaders to look into education sectors and restructure the necessary with a view to have another set of great generations.
Government college Birnin Kudu which was established over 60 years back had graduated prominent Nigerians which includes the governor of Kano Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former governor of Jigawa state Dr. Sule Lamido among other prominent personalities.
Yet the school needed renovation and a conducive learning atmosphere that includes Hostels, classrooms, laboratories, roads among other critical infrastructures.
In his speech, the Jigawa state governor Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar who was represented by the secretary to the state government welcomes and appreciates the association for its tireless efforts in ensuring that the association is alive and united.
Also the emir of Dutse Alhaji Dr. Nuhu Muhammadu Sunusi who was present at the event, expresses his joy and gratitude for witnessing the event that united many prominent people from across the country.
He prayed for the association to be progressing and the leaders to redouble their efforts towards the good work they are doing in uplifting BIKOBA.
Along the line, president of the association Alhaji Ja'afar Usman Muhammad (Turakin Gaya) in his speech, said Government college Birnin Kudu today accommodates over 2000 students, the current numerical strength is enough to appreciate the numerous challenges facing the school.
He said the aim of the association is to inculcate unity and brotherhood amongst the members and principally support the school to maintain its excellent standard in educational and human development.
