Kuriga Students: Bandits Demand One Billion Naira Ransom

The abductors of over 287 schoolchildren in Kuriga village of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have reportedly demanded a ransom of one billion naira  from the victims’ families.
 
Reports gathered that the bandits called to ask for the ransom which they claimed should be paid within the next 20 days.
 
One of the community youth leaders,  Aminu Kuriga, who confirmed the phone call, told  reporters that the people were very worried.
 
The bandits claimed that they were somewhere around the northern part of Zamfara with the children and that the parents should pay the said amount before the next 20 days.
In a related development , the Commandant General  of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has assured the people of Kaduna State of a speedy recovery of the abducted students.
The CG gave this assurance when he visited the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani recently.
A statement on Thursday by the NSCDC spokesman, Babawale Afolabi, said the 200 students and teachers of Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School in Kuriga Chikun LGA in Kaduna would be rescued from their abductors and brought home safely.
He said efforts were in top gear as the security agencies were relentlessly working to effect the release of the students and their teachers.
