By Ibrahim Hamisu, Kano.

The Kano State Assembly has successfully passed the bill for Supplementary Appropriation into law to the tune of N99,221,559,816,357.84. This brings the total budget size of 2024 to stand at N536,559,816,357.84, along with other matters connected therewith.

The Governor's request letter was read on the floor of the house last week during the plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the Kano Assembly, Rt Hon Jibril Ismail Falgore.

In a press statement signed and issued to newsmen by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the Chief Press Secretary to Rt Hon Speaker, on Thursday.

Falgore stated that out of the Supplementary Appropriation of N99,221,503,569.90, the House approved the sum of N33,761,174,525.86 and N34,492,888,103.24 to be expended on recurrent services of personnel and overhead costs, representing a total of N68,254,062,062,629.10 or 69 per cent to be disbursed across MDAs to implement the new minimum wage to the state's civil and public servants. This will also enhance the running costs of MDAs.

While reiterating the Assembly's commitment towards proper monitoring, Falgore said that as legislative arms, they will track the implementation of the budget through effective oversight functions and ensure that funds allocated to each project are used correctly.

After rigorous review by the Kano State House of Assembly members, the proposed Supplementary Appropriation bill has finally been passed.
