Jigawa Local Government Chairman   Impeached

The legislative council of Ringim local government area of Jigawa state has impeached the local government chairman honourable Shehu Sule Udi Ringim with immediate effect over alleged misconduct.

 
In a letter dated 19th December, 2022 signed by 10 members of the legislative council stated that " by virtue of our positions and by powers confers upon us by the relevant provisions of the Jigawa state local government Law and 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria (as amended) do hereby resolved to remove the chairman of Ringim local government of Jigawa state immediately from office.
 
The statement said that the above resolution became necessary and inevitable for the well-being, progress and safety of the people we represent who mandated us into our respective offices and it is by answering their calls we invoked our powers to deal with the situation.
 
According to the statement, grounds for the impeachment includes; total exclusion of the legislative council in award of contracts and lack of disclosure of every payment involved in every contract awarded, illegal partition and renting of multiple farmlands in the kukar kuturu at sankara ward, renting of government land in dusukun village and Jangwano village all in Dabi ward. 
 
Other illegal partitions and renting of farmlands includes those partitioned at Arinji Gija village in Chaichai ward, Rinde village and Lanyoyal village in Dabi ward, Kaura village and Siyango village also in Dabi ward, Dabigyel loto area in Kyarma ward for an undisclosed amount.
 
Also the secret sale of 72 shops belonging to the local government council situated at Ringim central market by the executive chairman is another ground for the impeachment. Furthermore, withdrawal of funds belonging to the local government without following the due process laid down by administrative protocols. Persistence refusal to honour any invitation by the legislative council for any meeting of legislative sitting only at once since his swearing-in to office.
 
Along the line, the issue of partitioning of farmlands at Danmarke into hectares was carried out without a shred of awareness of the legislative council, and hence constitute a gross misconduct. Also the Fifty seven million naira only (N57,000,000) being local government relief fund received by the Ringim local government has been withdrawn and embezzled by the chairman without any accountability, among other issues.
 
The statement highlighted that the above decision becomes necessary due to failed attempt by the members of the legislative council to draw the attention of the honourable chairman to begin to respect the rules of public service and social justice, several meetings were convened between all the members of the legislative council with the aim of achieving the above goal.
 
They alleged that since the chairman assumed office has never involved the legislative council in every budget he prepared and in every contract he awarded. Because of these, the honourable house committee on local government and also chairman committee on budget of the Jigawa state house of assembly in person of Honourable Abdurrahman Alkasim Karkarna intervened on their total exclusion by the local government chairman in the budget.
 
The attestations includes; Badamasi Garba, speaker from Sintulmawa ward, Shafiu Musa Deputy speaker from Karshi ward, Buhari Nasiru Majority leader from Karahi ward, Alasan Idris Chief whip from Tota ward, Tanimu Musa member from Kyarma ward, Ya'u D. Usman member from Kafin Babushe ward, Babannan Ibrahim member from Chaichai ward, Isah A. Musa member from 'Yandutse ward, Tijjani Rabo member from Sankara Ward, and Uba Danladi member from Ringim ward.
 
Daily trust contacted the local government chairman via phone call, confirmed the matter and said that the decision they made is contrary to the law and will not affect his office, alleging that he was in the office while speaking with the correspondent.
 
He said he replied to them on the contrary.
