International Women's day:We Don't Want To Take Over From The Men What We Want Is----Aisha Abdullahi

International Women's day is celebrated On 8 march of March every year, And this year's theme is "Break the bias".

"Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow".

The day are set aside to create awareness for women to stand and face the challenge most especially against gender discrimination and gender based violence in the country.

The assertion was made by a women advocate Aisha Abdullahi who  featured on a current affairs program aired by vision FM sokoto and monitored by managarciya newspaper.

According to Aisha, women have every right to be treated as equal considering the role they played towards the development of the society.

She said" there is an ongoing constitutional review in the national assembly that seeks to create additional seats as well as provide other opportunities for women from the constitution, but sadly the bill was declined, it was really really traumatizing for Nigerian women.

"But I am sure that Nigerian women will not relent, they will continue to push, just like we have initiated a peaceful protest to the national assembly as it is ongoing, what Nigerian women really want is that, to have more inclusion of women.

" If you look back in 1999 when the Nigerian government returned to democracy to date, the number of women in the parliament actually continues to decrease, women have a meaningful contribution they can bring to the development of the society.

"When we talk about development here everybody is a critical stakeholder to put hands on deck to actually achieve the goals, that is why the Nigerian women said it is not a "War"  and we don't want to take over from the men what we want is, we want to contribute, we want to change the way things are been done.

"Let's look at the critical example of what is happening in our homes, it is very unfortunate with the way women are being treated".

When asked why the inclusion of women in some of the political and other related issues still remains there?

Aisha said "like I have said earlier this is the part where most women face a lots of challenges, this is because there are no enough and adequate measures, if you look at some African countries who have actually achieved a reasonable number of women in their parliament, you will discover that there were some certain measures they put in place.

Aisha added that other issues that hindered women's inclusion include, culture, god fatherism, money,  the influences and so on and no doubt this contributes more than you can imagine towards the flattered problems facing the women.

The focus on how to address the issues? Aisha said "there are different measures that are in line towards addressing this issues by many organisation where some will focus on the agitations of the sustainable development, and some will actually look at the role women played and finally if those issues ascertained earlier was not addressed I am sure that violence will keep reoccurring and will continue to affect the development of any society".
