HYPPADEC DONATES 2.1 MILLION LIFE JACKETS TO VICTIMS OF BOAT MISHAP IN NIGER

 

Following the recent boat mishap that led to the death of ten people in Niger state communities the Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC has donated no fewer than two hundred life jackets and cash to victims from two local government councils. 

 
Presenting the items Managing Director HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadik Yelwa   during a sympathy visit to commiserate with the victims and people of Gbara in Mokwa and Lanchikagi in Lavun local government councils of the state asked them to be strong in this trying moment.
 
Represented by the Director Operations Engineer Ilyasu Abdullahi Wara the Managing Director HYPPADEC explained that families of each deceased were given one hundred thousand naira while thirty seven of the survivors were also given thirty thousand naira each to ameliorate their sufferings.
 
Alh Abubakar Sadik Yelwa explained that this therefore brings the total amount expended to  two point one million naira for both the ten persons and thirty seven involved in the incident.
 
He however called on the Niger state house of assembly to as a matter of urgency enact a law to enhance the use of life jackets in the state while warning  members of community to always make use of those jackets to forestall future recurrence.
 
District Head of Gbara, Alhaji Mohammed Saba appreciated the kind gesture from the federal government and HYPPADEC for their quick intervention and response in providing life jackets and cash to the victims and called for more to succeed.
 
One of the victims Malam Abubakar Isah Muregi who thanked the Commission for this laudable gesture however expressed dismay over the loss of two of his brothers to the incident.  
 
It could be recalled that last week a boat mishap occurred where eleven persons were confirmed dead while thirty seven survived the unfortunate incident that included women and children who were returning from their weekly market and wedding on the Kaduna river.
