Governor Adeleke Battles For Survival In Osun As PDP Implodes
According to a report by The Nation on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is entering the 2026 governorship race with a major handicap: his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is sinking under a brutal factional war that threatens to leave him without a platform.
With the PDP crisis deepening and the INEC deadline for primaries only weeks away, Adeleke faces tough decisions about his political future.
The PDP’s internal battle—pitting the Turaki–Makinde faction against the Wike–Anyanwu bloc—has crippled the party’s national structure.
Both sides held parallel conventions, issued expulsions, and even clashed violently at the party’s Abuja headquarters.
The standoff means the party currently lacks the united leadership required for INEC to recognise any primary outcome.
For Osun, this has dangerous implications. Senator Samuel Anyanwu, recognised by Wike’s faction as National Secretary, has refused to sign any nomination documents for the state.
Without legally recognised signatures, the PDP cannot field a candidate. Party leaders in the Southwest admit there is no clear path to a valid primary.
With time running out, Adeleke is exploring contingency plans. Discussions are reportedly ongoing with the Accord Party and APGA as potential alternative platforms.
While smaller parties offer a guaranteed ticket, they lack the statewide structure of the PDP. Joining them would require rebuilding political machinery from scratch.
The Osun PDP is also fracturing at the grassroots, particularly in the critical Ife axis, where stakeholders have turned against top party figures.
Meanwhile, the APC is watching closely, confident that the PDP’s crisis gives them an advantage in 2026.
