CBN launches currency swap in rural areas of Jigawa

The Central Bank of Nigeria Dutse branch has launches old Naira swap with the new currency across the rural areas in Jigawa state 

The CBN in the State has engaged the services of more than 200 agents for a cash swap program.

The Director of Human Resources of the apex bank and team leader for the cash swap program in the state, Hajia Amina Habib, made this known during a press briefing in Dutse, the state capital.

Habib said the program was introduced by the CBN to reach rural dwellers in the nooks and crannies of the state.

She said a minimum of N10,000 would be swapped by each person, adding that agents will guide people in rural areas to open accounts to enable them to deposit their money.

Habib said the program was introduced by the CBN to reach rural dwellers in the nooks and crannies of the state.

She said a minimum of N10,000 would be swapped by each person, adding that agents will guide people in rural areas to open accounts to enable them to deposit their money.

She said those who have above N10,000 will have to deposit it in their bank accounts while for the unbanked, the CBN encouraged them to open bank accounts.

“Nigeria is moving towards cashless banking which is presently the practice worldwide and would also help their monetary policy and decision making.

“Statistics by the CBN shows that 85 percent of the cash in the economy is actually outside of the banking system which is not good for the Nigerian economy,” Hajiya Amina noted.

She added that the apex bank has also urged the general public to accept the old naira notes until the 31st of this month.
