By Elections: Police arrest 100 political thugs in Kano

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the arrest of more than 100 suspected political thugs in Bagwai Local Government Area during Saturday’s by-election in Kano State.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Abdu Zango, told reporters in Bagwai that security agencies acted swiftly to keep the election peaceful.

“All those we saw trying to cause trouble have been rounded up, and the process is going on peacefully. I am really impressed,” Zango said.

He explained that sensitive election materials arrived on time and that voting started around 8:30 a.m. in most polling units. According to him, a few delays were caused by vehicle breakdowns and attempts to disrupt movement, but security personnel quickly restored order.

Zango added that while he could not personally identify the suspects, police confirmed that more than 100 people had been arrested and would face prosecution.
