BAF-ActionAid trains youth affected by flood on advocacy

Baba Azimi Foundation (BAF) in collaboration with Action Aid has trained youths from three local government of Jigawa state on advocacy.

The three local government are Miga 'Sabara community', Kaugama 'Rakwata Saleh community', and Gwiwa 'Diwindi community'.

The partnership and local rights programme training for youths affected by 2022 flooding in Jigawa state funded by iHeart took place in Dutse on Tuesday December 14th to Friday 16th 2022.

Hajara Adamu AAN facilitator said the objectives of the training includes is to know the meaning and types of advicacy, the significance of evidence-based advocacy, basic skills required to conduct the successful advocacy and also the tips on gathering community voices.

She advise them to make use of what they learned during the training for their good and the development of their communities.

The youth stated similar problems that includes; " inadequate schools, in adequate classes, inadequate teachers, in adequate drains water ways, access road, electricity among many other issues.

The executive director Baba Azimi foundation said they implement programmes in the three communities from Geiwa, Kaugama, and Miga starting from child profiling for the organization to know the exact children that in need of help like education and health.

She said the programme was successful because the children had been identified and successfully enrolled in school and supported them with some tools and food.

She recalled that the AAN supported the three communities with food items and cash as part of flood intervention. 

On her part, the representative of ActionAid Nigeria Hajiya Suwaiba dankabo said AAN came to Nigeria since the year 2000 and it's work in about 40 countries on the area of education, health, humanitarian assistance, focuses on women and children among other programmes.

Dankabo said AAN comes to Jigawa 3 years ago and implemented many programmes through which including this programme

Suwaiba advised the youth to stand on their right to showcase their problems to those that represent them in political seat.

 She said is their right and privilege to ask for what their communities needed in terms of social amenities and others.

The AAN representative then called on the politician to support remote areas with social amenities.
