The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has called on women groups in Kano State to sustain their support for the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf as part of efforts to consolidate the achievements of the government and strengthen its political base ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during a meeting held on March 11, 2026 with members of the AKY Door to Door Women Ambassadors, Waiya emphasized the crucial role women play in the political and democratic process in Kano State, noting that they constitute the majority of the voting population.
The meeting, which was convened to expand grassroots support for the governor, also had in attendance the Commissioner for Housing Development, Ibrahim Yakubu. Both commissioners encouraged the women not to relent in their continued backing of the administration of Governor Yusuf, popularly known as Jagoran Sabuwar Kano.
As part of activities during the gathering, the commissioners distributed bags of rice and cash assistance to members of the women group as a Ramadan gesture, under the auspices of the AKY Door to Door Women Ambassadors.
According to Waiya, the event was also aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the government and women groups across the state in recognition of their unwavering commitment and support to the governor, particularly during the build-up to the 2027 governorship elections.
He further urged the women to remain active in promoting the policies and achievements of the administration, especially the flagship initiative of Governor Yusuf known as “Kano First,” which focuses on prioritizing the development and welfare of the people of Kano State.
The commissioners expressed confidence that with sustained grassroots mobilization and support from women and other stakeholders, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will secure victory in the 2027 governorship election.
