A midday patrol on a key rural road in Katsina State has turned deadly, underscoring the persistent risks faced by security personnel operating in bandit-prone corridors of the North-West.

Four police officers were killed and two others injured when suspected armed bandits ambushed a patrol team along the Guga–Bakori road, a stretch that links several agrarian communities.

The road has remained vulnerable to criminal activity despite sustained security operations.

Sources told counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama on Wednesday that the attack occurred at about 12:45 p.m. and targeted operatives of the 27 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Guga Camp, who were on routine patrol duty.

The timing of the ambush, in broad daylight, highlighted the boldness of the attackers and the growing operational challenges confronting security forces in the area.
