This was disclosed on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, who also serves as the National Chairman of the festival while briefing journalists.
The SSG was flanked by key stakeholders drawn from the Emirate’s three Local Government Areas of Yauri, Shanga and Ngaski.
Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida explained that the Yauri Rigata Festival is one of the oldest and most prestigious cultural festivals in Kebbi State, deeply rooted in the history and traditions of the riverine communities along the River Niger.
He noted that the festival serves as a vital platform for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the people, fostering unity, and promoting tourism as well as economic activities within the area.
The SSG highlighted the historical significance of the festival, particularly its traditional boat regatta, cultural displays and communal celebrations, which over the years have attracted visitors from within and outside the state.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu) for his sustained support and commitment to the preservation and promotion of Kebbi State’s cultural heritage, noting that the Governor’s backing has continued to enhance the organization and visibility of the festival.
Alhaji Tafida assured that adequate preparations are in place to ensure a successful, peaceful and colorful event, and called on residents and visitors alike to actively participate actively in the 2026 edition of the festival.
He also commended the Emir of Yauri, His Royal Highness, Dr.Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi, for reinvigorating the Rigata Festival and strengthening its cultural relevance.
The Yauri Annual Rigata and Cultural Festival remains a major cultural tourism event in Kebbi State, reflecting the identity, history and unity of its people.
