The Sokoto State Government will set up a committee to assess the extent of damage caused by the outbreak of fire at Sokoto Kara Grain Market.
 
State Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir announced that when he visited the scene of the incident to sympathise with the victims.
 
He said apart from the assessment,the committee would be saddled with the responsibility of suggesting best ways to avoid recurrence of the disaster.
 
The Deputy Governor said fire out breakdown is more rampant during the current harmattan season.
 
He therefore, stressed the need for people to take all necessary precautionary measures.
 
Alhaji Idris Gobir assured them that the Government would render assistance to the victims after the committee submitted its report.
 
The Deputy Governor on behalf of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto sympathised with the victims and prayed to Allah to compensate what they have lost.
 
Earlier,the Chairman of Grinders Association in the market Malam Yakubu Bello said the fire which affected about 50 shops destroyed 132 Grinding Machines.
 
Malam Yakubu Bello further said food items which include Rice,Millet and Beans among others worth millions of naira were destroyed in the inferno.
 
He said many people both indigenes and residents communities carrying out their businesses at the area were affected.
 
In his comment,the State Chairman of Youth Traders Association Alhaji Bashar Nuhu thanked the Deputy Governor for the sympathy visit, pointing out that it was a clear indication of the Government's concern for the plight of its people.
 
Alhaji Bashar Nuhu appealed to the Government to assist the victims as youth constituted the highest number of people conducting their businesses in the market.
