2027 Elections: ADC Explains Delay in Obi, El-Rufai’s Membership Decision
Bolaji Abdullahi, the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has disclosed why Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai have not yet joined the opposition party.
During a media briefing in Abuja over the weekend, Abdullahi explained that both Obi and El-Rufai were permitted to finalize certain electoral procedures within their previous political parties.
He assured the public that both Obi and El-Rufai remained dedicated to the ADC coalition and would officially become part of the party once those processes were finalized.
"They were provided the chance to complete pending elections, including by-elections and selecting governorship candidates within their legacy parties," he stated.
Addressing concerns regarding the party's internal democracy, Abdullahi stated that they have no hidden agenda or preferred candidate. He emphasized that every participant will be given an equal opportunity in the race for the party’s nomination.
The interim spokesperson also denied allegations that the ADC was encountering significant legal problems.
"We are certain that all of our actions have been completely legal. We took care to address any potential loopholes that the ruling party might attempt to exploit against us," he added.
